Former Cwmbran Taxi Driver Jailed For Sexual Assaults

Timothy Foster was once a taxi driver in Cwmbran and has been jailed for three and a half years after being found guilty of repeated sexual assaults against a young girl. He was convicted on four counts including the inappropriate touching of a girl under the age of 13, forcing her to touch him and forcing her to kiss him. Matthew Roberts was the prosecutor in the case which was heard at Cardiff Crown Court. Roberts read out a statement from the victim which outlined the effect that the incident had on her. It transpires that the young girl needs treatment because she suffers from depression and low self-esteem in the aftermath of the incident.

Heath Edwards was defending Foster and claimed that this was the only offence that the defendant has ever committed. He pointed out that although Foster had access to children during his stint as a cab driver, he had never committed any other crime and was otherwise of clean character. Edwards also said that Foster was unwell and has a series of medical conditions that will reduce the duration of his life. Edwards said that Foster needs to take a series of medicines and will have difficulty surviving in custody.

Judge Patrick Curran said that Foster was acquitted of more serious charges despite his conviction on four other counts. He was sentenced to 6 months in jail for forcing the child to touch him sexually and another 3 years for indecent assault. Further sentences of 2 months and 4 months for kissing the young girl will run concurrently. Foster is to be placed on the sex offender’s register permanently. Judge Curran had some sympathy for Foster by saying that he will find it difficult in prison due to his ill health.
