Getting Around Edinburgh: Tips for Those Who Wish to Travel By Car

Car is traditionally seen as the most convenient method of travel, but when it comes to visiting towns and cities, there are a few extra considerations.

If you want to bring your car into Edinburgh then you should ensure you follow the numerous parking restrictions around the city. There is short term parking available for cars: check your ticket to see how long you can stay. There are often restrictions that require you to move your car once your time runs out.

There are two main parking zones in Edinburgh city centre, all of which are governed by set time periods in which you will be required to pay.

It’s important to be careful, as there are a number of traffic inspectors around the city checking that cars are only parked legally. It may also be hard to find a parking space during busy periods.

A more convenient option may be to take one of the numerous taxis available, straight from your door to your destination, especially if you’re planning a night out where alcohol could be involved. You won’t have to worry about parking and there are always taxis available. You can also make use of any of the main bus routes travelling in and out of the city.
