Man Arrested In Connection With Taxi Murder

One of the most brutal taxi murders of recent times occurred in Birmingham on 7 August. According to West Midlands Police, a man named Junior Saleem Oakes was arrested in connection with the murder of a young woman in a taxi. It is believed that the woman was stabbed to death inside the cab. Oakes is alleged to have fled the scene and was found in Allens Farm later that evening as he tried to evade capture.

The murder happened at around 8am in the morning and the police soon launched a massive manhunt with an estimated 50 police involved in capturing the suspect. Some of the police were armed. The cab driver was stunned by the stabbing and quickly called the police as the attacker ran away. The woman is believed to have been a regular customer of the cab firm and although an ambulance rushed to the scene and paramedics desperately tried to save the stricken woman, it was too late.

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jones stated that a complex and dynamic police investigation was underway and he appealed for witnesses to come forward. Roads in the region of Hoggs Lane were closed as the forensic team carried out a thorough examination of the area. 24/7 Radio Cars is the name of the taxi firm involved in the incident.

Locals were stunned by the incident as they claim it is a nice and quiet neighbourhood. Residents who have lived in the region for decades can’t remember anything as shocking ever happening there before. Locals also stated that 24/7 Radio Cars is a popular cab firm with drivers known for being polite. Jennifer Pickering, a local resident, felt sympathy for the driver and said she could only imagine the terror he felt as he witnessed the attack.

According to a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, the woman suffered from serious injuries in a taxi and suffered from traumatic cardiac arrest. Although advanced life-saving techniques were carried out, the woman could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect was arrested and taken to the police station for questioning where he may be charged with the murder in due course.
