New Leads In 30 Year Old Cab Driver Murder Mystery

Gurcharn Singh Landa, also known as John, was a taxi driver who was murdered on 14 August 1982 in Nottingham. A recent appeal seems to have produced some promising leads according to the police. The evidence was recently reviewed and a renewed call for witnesses was made. Detectives hope that the new information will lead to a much needed break in the case.

Landa was called to Peel Station after 4am in the morning by a man who called himself ‘Shelton’. The call came from a telephone box. Landa arrived only to be robbed of his takings and stabbed several times in the chest. The father of eight’s murder shocked the local area at the time and although a total of 11 people were arrested, no one was ever charged.

According to Chief Inspector Tony Heydon, a number of positive leads have been garnered from the members of the public who have given new information. This new evidence will be joined with old forensics and original witnesses and Heydon is hopeful that this will help the inquiry move a significant step forward. Jasvinder is one of Landa’s sons and he also spoke of his confidence that the new inquiry will lead to positive news. He believes that the public and perhaps the killer have seen the family suffering and may have a guilty conscience. Maybe someone who was too scared to testify in 1982 will come forward today.

The police state that they have had a number of anonymous calls recently, many of which could lead to positive results. They have appealed to these individuals to call back and provide them with more detailed information. This murder is one of 17 unsolved killings in the county of Nottinghamshire within the last half century.
