Travelling Around Edinburgh City Centre

Whether you’re a visitor to the area or just need to get around easily, there are a number of travel options in and around the city centre of Edinburgh.

A number of local bus services run frequent travel routes through Edinburgh and the Lothians. First Buses have around 300 services, and passengers can take advantage of a Lothian Buses Day Ticket if unlimited travel is required.

For seeing the sights, a number of city bus tours are in operation. Tickets are available from the Edinburgh and Scotland Information Centre, Princes Street, or from Waverley Bridge.

Many people prefer to bring their own car into the town, though there are a number of parking restrictions throughout the city. For a more relaxed day out, hundreds of taxi services are available to pick you up right from your home and take you where you need to go. There are also free designated motorcycle areas.

Travelling out of Edinburgh is also easy, as coach tickets can be purchased from the bus station in St Andrew Square in advance of your travel around Scotland and the UK. The main train stations are Edinburgh Waverley (in the city centre) and Haymarket (in the West End). Tickets must be bought before boarding the train.
